Mt. Airy resident Chana Rothman has performed throughout the city and at various locations around the world. But she deliberately decided to have her CD release party at Point of Destination Cafe inside Upsal Station (6460 Greene St.) for a very particular reason.
It's "very intentionally in this 'hood," Rothman wrote in an email.
That's all part of Rothman's plan for her new album, Beautiful Land. The release parties and performances Dec. 10 are intended to be connected to her community-based approach to the music business.
The first concert will take place at 5 p.m.; it's targeted toward families. An adult performance will then happen at 7 p.m.
The six-song EP should, according to Rothman, should "give the listener a feeling of flipping through Rothman’s photo album while she shares the story behind each photo." She draws upon her experiences in South African and Jamaica as well as her personal feelings about Michael Jackson's death in the songs.
Tickets are $10 ($15 including a CD purchase), $2 per child and $20 per family.
